A Panaromic view of Singapore

Dear Friends…
I don’t write my blog as a Journal because I know my readers will not be interested to know everything about my day..like what time I had breakfast..what passenger gave me good tip and so on..What I do is take a single experience and talk about it..but today I will tell you about two experiences I had today…

I picked up this gentleman from 53rd Street and Park Ave. Ever since he got in my cab..he started to talk to me about various things..he was very friendly and it seemed we really clicked…he wanted to go to 9th Ave and 53rd St. The cross town traffic was really horrendous…it took more than 20 minutes to go 5 blocks of town.

He told me that he managed a small equity company in Singapore and he had a meeting in Miami. He brought his girlfriend with him.

He told me that he would pick up his girlfriend and would go to LaGaurdia Airport. I was happy to tell him that I would be able to drive him there if he wanted me to. He was also very happy. So I dropped him off and he left to get his girlfriend. I waited about 15 minutes ….one thing I did not do is keep the meter running..I stopped the meter so that it ran slower.

He came back with his girl friend who was a Singaporean Girl. he was very attractive looking girl. He was such a friendly person that I really felt very comfortable talking to him. He checked out my site in his McBook Pro and it looked so great.He read “Love at first Ride..” and complemented me for doing the right thing. We talked through out the whole journey.

The meter came with toll $44.20 (it would have come higher had I not made it slower)…He gave me 2 $20 dollar bills, one $1 dollar bill and a $1 dollar coin totaling $42.00. I took the money while I was unloading a small suitcase he had outside the car. I felt very embarrassed as he not only gave me a good tip (I spent 59 minutes with him), he did not even pay me my full fare.

I was totally speechless by his forgetfulness..I am sure he thought he actually gave me $52.00…I gave him benefit of doubt that he just did not count it properly. But one thing it always bothers me is that why does it happen this way..why doesn’t it happen the other way around like a passenger giving me an extra $20 dollar tip by mistake..(Guess what..if it ever happen..I will return the money right way)..?

We are in the middle of a heat wave in New York City. The temperature is closing in towards 100 degree mark and the heat index is about 105 degree. I picked up this beautiful young woman from 3rd ave and 15 st. As soon as she was in she complemented me for having a clean and very comfortable air conditioned Taxi. She seemed to be a very energetic person who had a smile of a beautiful flower.
My daughter went to Seattle with her friends the day before and she asked me to cook for her some Thai food as Thai food being her most favorite food but I could not cook because I was very tired. Now that she was gone for few days so I was not feeling well as she never went anywhere without us. I don’t know how this came so she complemented me for being a good cook.

I also told her that I like to do those thing..I do many of the house work..like cleaning..washing clothes and so on. In one time I also told her a story when I was organizing the clothes in a laundromat..one woman was so impressed that she actually gave me her telephone number and told me,” When and if you divorce your wife..call me..”

Then I told her that one very young girl had a crush on me because I could cook and she loved my cooking..in that moment she said,” You can cook, you can clean, you can raise children..heck I have a crush in you..” Then we had a big laugh. I gave her my card and she promised me that she would read my blog frequently.

So that was a good feeling..and that complement made me feel a bit younger again.
