      Welcome to YellowTAXIblog.com

I am a NYC yellow taxi driver who wants to create a blog site for the taxi drivers where taxi drivers will be able to express their views and share their stories. This blog is for everyone who wants to say something about the taxi drivers whether it is a complaint or a complement or a suggestion. I will protect the identity of the taxi drivers so that they can feel free without exposing themselves to the NYPD and TLC. I will help other taxi drivers in any way possible. Please give me information, I will make sure that the information will be published. Thanks for your support. Together we will fight against all kinds of injustice...

Disapointed and heart broken…

Worst traffic of the year..the United Nation Week

It was an eventful day for me. The yearly meeting of all the United Nation countries is being held this week and I already had it enough. The whole East side is cordoned off from 47th St down to 34th St between Lexinton Ave and 1st Ave including FDR Drive. SO you can naturally see my friends that traffic wise this week is even worse than 2nd week of December shopping time. Each and every crosstown as well as the Avenues were totally closed for vehicular traffic.

I took my first passenger from LaGaurdia Airport to 45th St and Madison Ave. I picked up a couple who wanted to go to 8th Ave and 57th St and 9th Ave and 57th St. I was happy to get them as I had a chance to go to west side. I dropped the husband at 57th St and 8th Ave. Then stopped on the right side 1st lane on the corner of 9th Ave. Just before she left the cab she changed her mind and asked me to drop her on the middle of the 10th Ave. I saw a Police car was on the 3rd lane to make a left turn to 9th Ave.

So when she told me to cross the ave I went to the middle of the lane and turn on the left signal on and changed the lane as there were cars parked on the 1st lane and stopped on the middle of the next block. All of a sudden I heard a Police Siren behind me..I looked on my left and there was that Police car behind me and the Police came to me and asked me angrily,”Why did you cut the traffic off and changed the lane..?” I told him that I did not cut anyone off as I waited before the 3 cars passed and before the 4th car came closer to my car.

So he told me,” You guys always do that and I am sick and tired of you guys..all the cab drivers always do this…I put your cab number in my computer..if you ever do it again..I will give you ticket..” and he was about to leave..I knew from my previous experience that the Police can give any one any ticket simply because he can..I extended my right hand to shake his hand as he did not issue me a wrongfully written ticket..he told me in a harsh voice,”I don’t want to shake your hand..” and left. I was not surprised by his behavior as that’s how these uneducated Police behave.

I looked back and guess what..?” The woman just left without paying me my $10.60..! I was so heart broken and disappointed..Heart broken because how could she do that..? Disappointed because this kind of not paying behavior was not expected from a White woman. It happened to me few times and unfortunately all the time it was Black guys (only one time it was a Black woman)..I am sorry to say it Not so politically correctly.

This is the reason that Yellow cab drivers including Black drivers don’t like to carry Black passengers. I don’t really care about that as I treat every one with dignity, luckily the percentage of Black passenger is really low so I take chances and many times got good tips as they appreciated that I stopped. But it never happened to any of my known cab drivers (I asked at least 300 drivers today at every red light I stopped) that a White woman did not pay.
I was so heart broken..I really did not care about the lost money but I just refused to believe that this could really happen. But it did.
