Dear Friends…
Many of you wanted me to write about one passenger every week who I liked for various reasons and wanted me to highlight him/her with a picture and a brief description of the ride. SO here I am starting with this week most favorite passenger..SARA.
I was about to come home when 3 young girls hailed me at the intersection of Mulberry and East Houston St. I thought all three would get in but it was only SARA who got in the cab.
She gave me the destination which was Upper West Side and asked me how much it would take to go there as she had only a $20 bill with her. I told her that it should cost about 18 to 19 dollars. Then she said that if it was more than that she would call her father to come downstairs with extra money.
At first I dis not say anything..but within 3 minutes I started to ask her about her school..and our conversation started from there..I started to tell her all the jokes I knew which was appropriate for a child. She is a student of 9th grade, 14 years old and I had to make sure that all the jokes were very clean. I am a father above all and I always consider someone else’s daughter as my own. I always tell jokes to my kids..I even text them jokes.
So I told her one lawyer joke..she bursts into laughter..I kept telling her jokes after jokes and she kept laughing like broken glass…I was very happy that she was laughing so hard..because laughing is the best gift you can give it to anyone. She told me that her father also tells jokes.
Finally I reached the destination. The bill came $19.80 and she wanted to call her father for some extra money to give me as tips. I couldn’t do that. I was happy to get the cost of the fare. I told her if she wanted to give me some extra money…then just give it to the driver next time she takes another cab.
What made my day was that she told me that that was the best cab ride she ever had and she was so lucky. But the reality is I was the lucky one. She reminded me of my daughter when she was in her age.
Thanks SARA…you made my day. Hope all your dreams come true. I know a daughter is very precious and I am sure your parents are very proud of you as I am very proud of my daughter Amaira.
