There are so many dogs in New York City and to many family a dog is as loved as a family member. Every morning when I go to drive, as soon as I reach Manhattan I see few people are running with their dogs. Most of the people are in their jogging suite and those playful dogs keep running with their owners. It is a beautiful site to look at that man and animal are co-existing and supporting each other. But let me ask you my friends..do we really know about all those dogs and their owners lives especially do they keep the dog willingly in the family..? Having a dog is a very serious, time consuming, very demanding job and it is a very big responsibility.
Like every morning I started my job at 4.30 in the morning. It was snowing heavily and already there were about 8 inches of snow on the street. My night driver came to pick me up and after that I dropped him off and went to pick up my permanent passenger whom I take to 68th St and Lexinton Ave 6 days a week. So I dropped of the passenger and made a right turn on 67th St from Lexinton Ave. and I stopped on the red light on Park Ave. The roads were full of snow and there was no one one the street..it felt like the whole city was wearing a white blanket all over her. The snow falling was looking so divine that I wished it never ended. I was being amazed by the scene while I was waiting on the red light. All of a sudden I heard a thin voice screaming, “Stop..don’t run..I am sick and tired of you..” I looked around and I saw a young girl, well dressed walking her dog. I was so surprised to see her in that early morning and alone. What kind of parents would do that to such a young girl..? The girl could not be more than 17 years old. I have a 20 years old daughter and i can’t think of letting her walk the dog in that early morning.. Granted the dog was big and no one will come near to her as the dog could protect her. The light turned green but I lowered the window and asked her,” How come you are walking your dog in such an early morning..?” She was literally crying and answered me,” My B*** mother make me do this every morning. I can’t take it anymore.” So I told her,” Why didn’t you let it go ..just let it go and you run back home..tell your mother a lie (I don’t want anyone to lie but to save this kid from pain every morning I compromise).” She said,” I did, but she came back..I don’t know how.” I felt so bad for the kid and thought that my daughter is sleeping…she is safe, warm but this poor kid is sleep deprived, alone, cold..what kind of mother would do such a heartless thing to her own child..? Since they live on Park Ave around 70s..they must be rich….may be super rich..and this poor kid has to walk the dog..? I became so angry in my mind that I told her the unthinkable. I told the girl,” Give me the dog. I will take the dog to a dog shelter or something. Don’t worry I will make sure that the dog is safe and warm. Then go home and tell your mother that she ran away.” She thanked me and said” You are so fatherly. My father also says the same thing but we both are not brave enough to do that.My mom is very strong woman. She will find out the truth and I will be in even bigger trouble. Thank you sir. I got to go..it’s too cold. She had done what she had to..” She just gone into a building in the west side of 67th and Park Ave.
This is the story my friends. I understand that dog is may be the best friend a man can ever have..a dog is the most selfless animal in the earth..a dog will sacrifice his own life to save the owner and a dog brings some of the greatest joys to am man..but the dog owner also have to be very realistic. Most of the people in Manhattan live in a high rise building and it is so hard to walk the dog everyday. What can I do..let it go.. but one thing which makes me very angry..which is
The dog owner also become very selfish. They fail to realize that when it snows it is NOT OK to let the dog do both number 1 and number 2 on the snow. There are so many dog owners do this disgusting thing that I just can not even explain. Every time it snows I know that there will be disgusting thing in front of our building. I know the woman and I warned her few times but she does not listen. Next time I will take some photo and video and then send it to the proper authority and also to the building management.
Got to go now. Sleeping time. Good Night.
