Dear Friends..I am sorry that I could not write for few days. This snow really made me so frustrated that I don’t feel like even going to work. The whole city has so much snow especially on the cross roads that during the work days the traffic gets very slow and it is so hard to drive. It takes long time to go from one place to another. I hate the cross town trips. Anyway this Sunday morning I had a great experience and I am going to write about it.
I woke up around 3.30 in the morning as my night driver called me a bit earlier and asked me if i wanted to go half an hour earlier. I shaved and took a shower. I put my clothing on top of the heater so that it feels good to put it on. After shower and lotion I put on my warm and toasty 2 full sleeve shirt and a heavy sweatshirt with hood on. It felt so good like a warm blanket was all over my body.
I dropped my night driver off to his home and headed straight to Manhattan. I took the upper roadway of the Queens Borough bridge and straight down to 2nd Ave to New York University and East Village area. I drove around for few minutes and then I got a young girl going to Bay Side, Queens which is far way from Manhattan. I was very happy because I knew the trip would give me at least $55 dollars and it will take me about an hour to go and come back. She seemed to be a nice girl but ever since she got in the cab she started to make phone calls. She was explaining how her evening was to some one. She was about a foot way from me so even though I really did not want to hear her conversation but sitting so close to her in the same car was almost impossible not to hear. She was talking about all the guys who were hitting on her..how many guys wanted to buy her drinks and how she refused their offer but she said that she liked one guy and they started hanging out together. He was a good looking guy and seemed to be very handsome and rich. I smiled when I heard that.
Normally I like to talk to my passengers but this girl did not really give me a chance to talk to her. I sensed some story line but could not talk to her so I was kind of upset as she was talking so much without taking a break. So finally I gave up and started to drive minding my own business. I took Grand Central to Long Island Expressway to Clear view Expressway to Northern Blvd and made some turns to her destination. Once I reached her destination..that’s when thing started to get interesting.
She told me that she did not have money with her so she was coming back with money from her home. I said that it was OK. She went inside this nice house and I started to checking my mails in my HD2. I waited for about 5 minutes and she was not coming…I waited few more minutes and then I realized that she was not coming back. What should I do as the meter came around $57 dollars. I thought for few seconds but could not decide what to do..should I leave as she was not coming back..or should I call the Police..? Or should I ring the bell..of the house. This house was in a very affluent neighborhood with front and back yard..one story building with nice front yard with even though there was so much snow..I could figure out that it was a great house to live in.
Finally what I did also surprised even me..I kept pressing the horn and at the same time started to use the high beam of the headlight. I just could not let this big fare go and did not want to ruin my day. About 2 minutes later there was an old big man came yelling at me in a harsh voice,” What the hell are you doing that for..?” I told the man very calmly with an authoritative voice,
“Sir.. I am extremely sorry for doing that as I had no other choice..one young girl..most probably your daughter came from Manhattan and she told me that she was bringing money from home but it’s been more than 15 minutes..she did not come back with money. You tell me what could I have done besides this..” He was so surprised and I could see that he was totally confused. I explained the whole situation to that man and he was so furious. He told me to wait and a minute or two later he came with $70 dollar and apologized for his daughter’s behavior and told me that he would kill her. I knew he meant that she would pay for it not literally killing her.
What really happened was that the girl was very late from the party and she thought she could just slipped in the house and her parents would not find out. She almost made it back but she did not realize that I would spoil the secret. I am sure she did not even thought of that…I gave her the benefit of doubt as this could be her first time coming home that late and she was nervous and confused as what to do.
Anyway my friends..this was the good story with a happy ending at least for me but there are so many drivers whose passengers did not pay and ran away. Please think about us..we are human too…..
